Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, authorized on Monday (9) the allocation of resources recovered by Operation Lava-Jato, in the amount of R $ 14 million, to ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation). The decision meets a request the Attorney General's Office. The amount will be used to combat and prevent deforestation and fires in the country. “The AGU manifestation contains information the competent technical bodies to act in the protection of the environment and to exercise the power of the environmental police, in addition to the consent of the Attorney General's Office, the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, who also signed the original agreement. The decision, however, foresees the obligation to prove, in the records, the effective use of the resources ”, said Moraes. These funds come a fund, created a US $ 853.2 million agreement that Petrobras closed with the United States government in September 2018. Of that amount, US $ 682 million (about R $ 3.66 billion) should be applied in Brazil. The agreement between the oil company and the United States was signed in September 2018 to close investigations resulting the irregularities investigated by Operation Lava Jato. The Federal Public Ministry in Paraná planned to create a private fund to manage resources recovered in Operation Lava-Jato. The project foresaw the constitution of a private law foundation to allocate part of the resources to social initiatives, in areas such as health, education and the environment.
